Five For Friday

Happy Friday!  Happy Friday!  Our last day was yesterday so we are celebrating this first day of summer vacay!  Yippee!

Here comes some Five For Friday action for your entertainment.  This week's edition is kind of a cheat because it really covers two weeks.  What can we say...things have been a little crazy.  We also had a very sad event happen this week.  We lost one of our precious 4th graders to a drowning accident.  So though we celebrate the happiness of the end of the year activities...our hearts are heavy and are with all of us who are grieving his sad loss.

The past couple of weeks started off with an earthquake drill.  My team is in charge of  "sweeping" one of the routes around our school.  Here are most of us in our finest gear.  Don't you think we are such the trendsetters in these outfits?  I know...you are probably jealous of our Teacher Dior line of clothing. Just remember, if you copy us, we want the credit for starting the style trend.  Ha! Oh hold on a second....I think that is Vogue calling for a photo shoot!

In math intervention groups, we spent the last day playing our fave math games.  This one is called "The 30 Second Challenge."  It is their favorite...go figure.  They just have to order the numbers correctly in less than 30 seconds.  They love it

This past week in reading intervention groups, we wrapped up our last story.  The 5th grade groups have been reading an "All About Art" series.  The last book we read was all about how artists decorated cows and installed them all over Rio.  So of course we had to make our own!  After the kiddles made their own art cows, our Dean came and judged the winner.  And can you believe it? They were all so great he decided they all had to win!  *wink *wink*  We clearly have amazing 5th grade artists at our school.  Now I am on the hunt for cows that are a bit larger for next year's groups. Give me a shout if you have any ideas where to get those.

As soon as we were finished teaching our last day of groups, we had to finish up the school wide support schedule.  Here are two of my team members getting busy.  And....ta da!  It's done!  3 days later, 30 classrooms and 789 students are all scheduled for next year!  Woohoo!

Last of all....we celebrated the last day.  Yessss!  Sooo...my 21st year and my daughter's 8th year are a wrap!  Done and dusted as they say.  And in the words of Maurice Sendak.....now...."Let the wild rumpus start!"

Happy Summer to all of you hardworking teachers everywhere!

Smiles,
Kristin

Five For Friday

Hi teacher friends!  Well, we are winding down!  Ten more days to go for us.  How long do you have?  (Don't tell me if you are done...I'd be too sad! )  Here's a peek into our week thanks to Doodle Bugs Teaching's Five For Friday!

Life In Reading Group Land - Episode 1

So P.R.O.U.D!!! This week the firsties independently did their close reading.  They didn't even need me! They just happily read away, annotating as they went.  That makes this teacher happy, happy, happy I tell ya!

Life In Reading Group Land - Episode 2

This is one of my favorite books to use for fluency practice.  It is perfect for my third graders, and this week we practiced away.  Our favorite poem is about the bear sighting. You really have to do some thinking and inferring to get the humor that is going on.  They just love it! If you've never used this book....or the other versions of it....you should check it out!  It's a goody!

Life In Support Specialist Land

Well...here we go!  Our team writes the support schedule for the whole school.  We are a big elementary school, so it's a BIG job.  It takes 4 days or more usually, and many, many trips to Starbucks for sustenance!  See that empty schedule on the left....it needs to look like that colorful full one on the right. Who writes the schedule at your school?   Ready or not....here we go!

On a relative note....

Working with a relative....in this case my daughter Lindsey, the other half of 2 Literacy Teachers...is such a blessing!  So what's a mom to do?  Bring treats for the teacher...aka Starbucks... to help her get through these last days...AND Shark Bite treats for the kiddles because they are studying oceans! And the comment on the cup about the shark's house?????  Well.....you just have to look up Stay Outta The Shark's House!!!!  by Veronica-Pooh Nash-Poleate on YouTube!  It'll crack you up!  She's hilarious!

On another relative note....

These boys!  Love!  This little boy is my grandson who is at his new school registering for...GULP...Kindergarten!  Yikes!  How did that happen so fast!? And the other handsome guy??? My son.  I don't know if this Grammy is ready for him to be a...gulp.....gulp again....kindergartner! Ack! I have to admit...I'm pretty proud of him though.  Ok....I'm pretty biased...but he's awesome!

Hey...thanks for stopping by.  I'm off to see what you all have been up to this week!  If you are done....pfft..... so jealous....enjoy your summer.  For the rest of you...I feel your pain!  Hang in there...we are all almost done!

Smiles,
Kristin
